UW Faculty Meets with Elected Officials Across Washington State on Faculty Field Tour

Last week was the annual UW Faculty Field Tour where faculty members new to Washington travelled to destinations across the state to learn more about the unique communities from which UW students come and that the University serves. The five-day bus tour started on Monday and included stops in Tacoma, Olympia, Mt. Saint Helens, Vancouver, Yakima, the Tri-Cities, Quincy, Ritzville, Spokane, Grand Coulee, Nespelem, and Leavenworth.

During the tour, faculty members were able to meet with several elected officials, including Lieutenant Governor Denny Heck at the State Capitol in Olympia to learn about the legislative process and functions of the state government. The faculty also met with State Representative Gloria Mendoza in her district at the Yakima Valley Farm Worker鈥檚 Clinic and State Senator Mark Schoesler at his family wheat farm in Ritzville.

Faculty members also visited the UW Spokane Center, which is housed in the new UW-Gonzaga University Health Partnership Building. The UW Spokane Center acts as the University鈥檚 main engagement hub in Eastern Washington and supports the UW-GU Health Partnership Program to enhance physician training and bolster the health care workforce, particularly in Washington’s rural and underserved regions.
